What’s The Point Of An ADHD Diagnosis?
Getting an ADHD diagnosis is no easy feat these days unless you can afford to go private!
But I 100% think it’s worth the effort, whatever way you do it.
Here are 6 things I have noticed clients get and feel once they are diagnosed with ADHD…
1. Validation
The relief that you are not crazy, lazy, mad or bad, along with the realisation that your challenges weren’t a personality weakness but a structural and biological difference in your brain.
2. Grief
For all that undiagnosed ADHD has cost you. This is normal, honour it, feel it and then let it go so that you can move and work with your ADHD strengths to create the amazing life you deserve.
3. Self-compassion
Instead of beating yourself up because you missed a deadline or forgot an appointment, you will understand that the issue lies with poor ADHD management rather than you as a person.
4. Self-awareness
As you start to understand your behaviours, you can begin to change your routines, environment or relationships to support your brain rather than aggravate it.
5. Anger
That you weren’t diagnosed earlier. Holding on to anger is exhausting. You are entitled to feel it, but the quicker you can accept how things are, the sooner you will be able to move on with your life.
6. Empowerment
As you start to live life your way and begin to work with your brain rather than against it.
Have you been diagnosed?
Did it bring up any of the above or change the way you think about yourself?
I’d love to know!
